The Refinery late night art party occurs this Saturday, November 19. This time around the party has a creative director, Fish Griwkowsky, local man of many talents, and it’s theme is Explorers of the North and the Monsters Who Killed Them. Good pal Smokey and I were commissioned by the Art Gallery of Alberta / Fish to create a set of these “monsters” to have around the gallery during the evening to create that je ne sais quoi that makes a party so much fun. I’ll see you there if you managed to purchase a ticket(s) before it sold out in minutes.

Also happening very soon is the Royal Bison Craft & Art Fair, though I feel I’ve screwed myself by taking on too much stuff to really contribute to this one. I might be there. I might not. I might be napping for once. We’ll see.

Whipped up this batch of illos for the ever great Alberta Views magazine – out now. Nice and fun making illos for a fiction piece about hanging out at an art camp. When working on these I had just returned from Toronto, where I caught a glimpse of a few paintings by my all time fave: Philip Guston. Thought I’d try a steal some of his jazz and sprinkle it on here. Sloppy paintings ahoy!

Aaron Pederson (the eye behind 3TEN Photo) and I have teamed up for an impromptu art show at Elm Cafe, where some of Edmonton’s best espresso can be found. Aaron takes photos of sexy people and generally draw tough, rough, and ulgy people. Perfect match. These are roughly 16″x20″ in real life. Buy the prints today – the show is only up for about a month.

I made this poster for Gabe Wong‘s really solid Where Are We Going? poster show at Latitude 53, here in Edmonton. With a total of 21 artists involved, there is an incredible range of work at this show. Much of it digital print, which I think is nice and validating. Though there are a few serigraphed posters in the show, and they made me wish I had a bit more time this month to do the same, as it has been an incredibly busy May.

Wesley Roberts is a good man. I met him at the Royal Bison a few Bisons back because his zines really caught my eye. He’s part of the Nowhere Fast Collective - a group of image and zine makers who make this city that much more awesome than many people take it granted for.

I was hanging up my Transport Tycoons show at the Artery on Sunday, May 15, and Wesley stopped by with camera in hand to snap a few photogs of the process of hanging. Really, it didn’t take too long – hanging 8 pieces of paper on a wall is fairly straightforward – but still, it’s stuff like that I neglect to document.

He made a really nice post on his blog HERE, and I guess he’ll be showing more of them once the opening goes down.

Sideshow Gallery is a petite local gallery curated by the very talented painter, Dana Holst. This Friday, the gallery’s newest exhibition, Menagerie, opens up to the public. It’s a really really really small gallery space, so the idea is to have over 100 pieces of small and affordable artworks for you to buy up. Above and below are my two submissions. A little bit D&D. A little bit My Little Pony collection. Extremely cheap; the most expensive being $50!

Tomorrow is the official unveiling of Giant Transition, the mural that Luke Ramsey and I completed this past summer. From 11 am to 1 pm, you (a.k.a. everybody and anybody) are formally invited to meet the team that made this project come to fruition. Also of note, there will be FREE FOOD AND DRINK, even veggie dogs for all you vegetarians out there. And by the sounds of it, Fat Franks will be dishing out all the dogs, which is a good thing, because they make some killer snacks. Hopefully I’ll see you there tomorrow!
