You might recall a set of collaborations I made with Aaron Pederson from 3TEN Photo a while back. Someone (specifically, Susan Meingast) from local magazine Avenue Edmonton saw them at Elm cafe and wanted to see more. Aaron and I were more than stoked to collaborate once again, this time about one of the (local) writers behind flick Cowboys & Aliens, Andrew Foley. This illustrations can be seen in this month’s issue of Avenue Edmonton.

Secret update: Aaron and I will be collaborating once again on a calendar for one of the coolest barbershops in town. Keep you posted.

Whipped up this batch of illos for the ever great Alberta Views magazine – out now. Nice and fun making illos for a fiction piece about hanging out at an art camp. When working on these I had just returned from Toronto, where I caught a glimpse of a few paintings by my all time fave: Philip Guston. Thought I’d try a steal some of his jazz and sprinkle it on here. Sloppy paintings ahoy!

This month, OWL is celebrating their 35th year in market of inspiring Canadian youth with science facts and funny jokes. I’ve said it before: I’ve loved this magazine ever since I was a wee boy, so I was more than honoured to work on the cover of this most celebratory issue. They brought back the retro logo (which is such a classic image) and asked me to draw up a bunch of birthday related imagery to sprinkle around. Big thanks to Caroline Versteeg at OWL- always so fun to work with you!

Uphere is a magazine based out of the northern Canadian realm of the Northwest Territories that doesn’t let isolation get the best of it. Case in point: it won the coveted Magazine of the Year aware at the 2010 National Magazine Awards here in Canada. Good stuff!

For their April issue I was asked to contribute an illustration for a little article about a certain April Fools prank that involved sneaking a pile of tires into a nearby dormant volcano and lighting it on fire — freaking out all nearby townsfolk. Pretty tame stuff.
