After helping Raymond B. rummage and organize his archives, I thought I’d wander through my own and find something noteworthy to share. Easier said than done. Seems I’m not as organized has he is. Back in the day, I didn’t take care of my documentation as well as I do now (take note folks!), and now all I have is this image from a submission to juxtapoz.com. Oh well. Onward I go.
This image, coming in at a hefty 5′ x 6′ or so, was my prix d’or from mid-ACAD days. It was this painting that helped pave my way to a NY scholarship. Now it resides in some private collection, specifically in the hands of whomever owns the luxurious Teatro in Calgary. Funny how a simple homage to Rampage found it’s way into some wealthy man’s heart. Now that’s taste.
I wish I had a large large large studio to make large large large paintings. One day, I’m sure.

Some shopped dabblings from the sketchbook. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Knights are cool. Vittore Carpaccio’s Portrait of a Knight (left) looks a bit wimpy in the real painting, so I decided to buff him up a little bit here. Botticelli’s Athena and Centaur (right) is a graphic painting, like most of his works, and makes for good source material if you want to draw from some renaissance material.

The arcade in Calgary’s Greyhound Station is one of the only places where you can find the Metal Slug arcade game in Alberta. I whipped this quick spot off for FFWD Weekly in March of ‘09. The article was about the Greyhound Station’s general sense of skeeziness, and at one point focused beautifully on a dirty chap rocking an arcade game. Not sure if it was Super-Max-Turbo-Cat (see above) is a game or not, but hell, why not? I’m posting it here because it can’t be found on the main site. Why is that? Concentrated Facelift!
If you find your way to the main portfolio, you will now only find two illustration sections: Editorial and Music. The selection is limited, more to the point in a less-is-more sort of way. It should be easier to maintain this way and will keep the style beast homogeneous and at bay. Worry not, the Personal Work section remains pretty much untouched, so far. Perhaps one could see a new sketchbook added in coming days/months/eons.

Getting back into the Rapidograph groove with some knights. Pietro Perugino’s St. Michael (left) and another sampling from the same Boticelli, The Madonna Enthroned With Six Saints (right), sampled a couple posts ago.

Weirdies. Something about this old book Art Treasures of the Uffizi & Pitti Florence that draws me to draw from some classic paintings from the yesteryears. Must be the old plate printing. Appropriation of a figure in Domenico Veneziano’s The Madonna And Child With Saints (left) and some messed up kid bothering a lady from Fra Filippo Lippi’s The Madonna And Child With Scenes From The Life Of The Virgin (right)from 1452-ish. Madonna hung out with some definite weirdies.
